The Summer Wine Club selection is ready. Club members who have their wine shipped should already have received their wine. The Summer Selection is one bottle each of our 2006 Amador County Barbera, 2006 Sierra Foothills Signature Mourvedre and 2006 Amador County Ten Zins.

Amador County produces superb Barbera. Generally, the wine is very nicely flavored but mild to compliment just about any meal on your table. Every now and then we get a season when the rain is just so and the sunshine is just right and the harvest is perfect. In those years we get the big pepper and spice that is the signature of the Shenandoah Valley of Amador County. 2006 was such a year. Pair the Deaver 2006 Amador County Barbera with your boldest meal. You are in for an enchanting treat. In fact, you may want another bottle or two nearby so you don’t run out.

2006 Sierra Foothills Signature Mourvedre
OK! Just exactly what is Mourvedre? The variety was probably introduced to Catalonia by the Phoenicians in around 500 BC. The name Mourvèdre comes from Murviedro near Valencia. We know it’s a wine made from grapes originally grown along the Mediterranean Coast of Spain and France. We know that it has many of the characteristics of Rhône wines: Syrah, Viognier and Grenache, for example. We know that its flavor is wild and earthy and full of soft red fruit flavors. Sounds like something to go with one of those “special” great big meals: Roast leg of lamb, standing rib roast or perhaps a thick and juicy steak done on your grill to your satisfaction! Enjoy!

When you think of signature wine in Amador County, the first name that comes to mind is Zinfandel. Some show big, bold flavor; some show their pepper and spice; some offer mellow fruit; and some provide the depth of flavor and body that can only come from an old vineyard. All can be wonderful in their own right, but our winemaking staff has taken ten of our very best Zinfandels and carefully crafted them into our Signature Ten Zins Blend. The character of the wine will match the moment, whether it’s a sip before dinner, an accompaniment to your meal or just a glass to end the evening with your best friend.
