The Fall Wine Club selection is ready. Club members who have their wine shipped should receive their wine shortly. We've chosen three wonderful Mediterranean wines that we're sure you will enjoy. The Fall Selection is one bottle each of our 2006 Amador County Sangiovese, 2007 Sierra Foothills Signature Tempranillo and 2007 Sierra Foothills Souzao.

Sangiovese originally came from the Tuscany region of Italy. There it is the primary grape in Chianti. In this country, we nearly always make it as a varietal wine. Amador County provides just the right soil and climate to produce some of the very best Sangiovese. This is a fun wine that demands to be surrounded by joy, laughter and good friends. Sangiovese beautifully compliments bold “country” cooking that includes the flavors of green or black olives, onions, capers, mushrooms, garlic and tomatoes. Pair our 2006 Sangiovese with slow braised lamb shanks for a wonderful family treat.

2007 Sierra Foothills Tempranillo
Originally from the Rioja Valley of Spain, the Tempranillo grape is well adapted to cultivation in the Sierra Foothills. Our summer days are hot enough to grow the thick dark skins from which come the rich color and bold flavor. Our nights cool down to allow the development of the delicate hints of strawberry, plum, cherry and leather. Pair Tempranillo with lamb or fresh water fish dishes, particularly stews with lots of vegetables. Or, if you really want a traditional taste treat, pair our Tempranillo with a paella garnished with sautéed fresh vegetables and steamed clams or mussels.

OK! Just exactly what is Souzao? It originated in the Minho regions of Portugal. Today it is used primarily in California and South Africa to produce wines of deep, rich color with a distinctive boldness. While it is often used as a component of superior port blends, we make Souzao into a varietal wine that goes particularly well with the wide array of flavors and textures found in the dishes coming off our outdoor grills in the warm summer and fall months.
