| 1998 Zinfandel 14.8% - Fruit from Deaver Vineyards 130 year old vines were harvested on October 9, 1998 for the ‘98 Zin so the fruit could reach full maturity. At 24.8 brix, the fruit attained optimum sugar/acid balance. After crush and cold soaking, fermentation took 12 days with twice daily pump over for 60 minutes. The new wine was racked into older American and French oak where it spent 17 months prior to light filtration and bottling on August 29, 2000. This medium bodied, spicy wine which shows bright berry and plum fruit with pleasant tannins and a firm, lengthy finish. A wine of exceptional quality that won a gold medal at the El Dorado County Fair, silver medals at the Orange County and Amador County Fairs, and a bronze medal at the California State Fair. |
