Deaver 2007 Old Vine Zinfandel
Wins San Francisco Chronicle's
"Double Gold."
The Deaver Vineyards 2007 Sierra Foothills Old Vine Zinfandel is one of those classic Zin's that the Deaver Family has been producing since the mid 1860's. This Zin has been afforded all of the accolades that it properly deserves. In January of 2010, this wine was judged at the San Francisco Chronicle's wine competition and was unanimously awarded "Double Gold."
When you drive our Shenandoah Valley roads, you'll notice some really odd looking grape vines. They look knarly and misshapen and untrained and old. That's because they ARE knarly, misshapen, untrained and really old Zin. Younger vines produce more grapes... Other wines sell for more money... So why would anyone keep these old Zin vines? Simple: They create some of the most incredible tasting wine in the world. The vineyard that produced our Old Vine Zin was planted on the Deaver Ranch in the 1870's.
The Deaver Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel comes from 140 year-old vines. It has a beautiful, deep, dark, garnet, hue that suggests a velvet texture. The aromas are those of blackberry, raspberry, anise, and leather. The first sip of this wine will excite your palate and the finish will have you remembering this wine for decades.
Pair this wonderful, classic, mouth fulfilling Zin with a range of culinary delights such as molasses, a smoky barbecue entree, a succulent fillet, or a classic Italian spinach lasagne smothered with wild mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and a big, bold, marinara sauce.
